Cal Poly is an institution dedicated to excellence in both
academics and athletics. As reported by the U.S. News and
World Report, Cal Poly has been rated as the top public regional
university in the Western United States since 1991. In
addition, the university boasts an athletic program with a rich
tradition in intercollegiate athletics, dating back to 1915.
Cal Poly Mustang athletic events have maintained their
popularity over the years, drawing the largest crowds of any
entertainment in the area. No other institution is more
tightly woven into the fabric of the Central Coast.
Emphasizing twenty intercollegiate sports, the Mustangs have a
proud history of success and achievement. While competing in
NCAA Division II Athletics, Cal Poly won 120 individual
championships, and 36 team championships, creating its reputation
as one of the top athletic programs in the country. Cal Poly
moved to NCAA Division I Athletics in 1994, and in a short time
established itself as a program with the same winning
tradition.
Spanning over 90 years, Cal Poly athletics is one of the oldest
and most respected programs in the nation. With a long legacy
of achievements, the Mustangs have proved to be one of the most
successful athletic programs in the nation as well.
