Cotsirilos, Fuller Sweep Big West Conference Athlete of the Week Honors

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly earned both the Men's and Women's Big West Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week awards for Sept. 12, as Peter Cotsirilos and Bryanna Fuller were announced as the winners following their performances at the Fresno Invitational over the weekend.

Cotsirilos, a junior from Wilmette, Ill., won the 4-mile at Woodward Park on Saturday in 20 minutes, 38.5 seconds.

He led the Mustangs to a near-perfect score of 16 points, dominating Fresno State, San Jose State and Fresno Pacific with a win one point away from a clean sweep as the squad combined for an average mile of 5:11.5.

Fuller, a sophomore from San Diego, finished in fourth place in the 5k, at 18:13.5.

She helped Cal Poly to a tie for the top team score (39 points) with San Jose State. The Spartans claimed a tiebreaker by a total of 35 seconds aggregated between the nine student-athletes on the course.

The Mustangs are now 3-for-4 in 2017 in winning Big West Athlete of the Week honors, as senior Swarnjit Boyal won the men's accolade on Sept. 5. As a program, Cal Poly combined to win the award eight times last fall (four for each side).

Both the Mustang men and women (ranked Nos. 8 and 11 in the USTFCCCA West Region polls also including the Pac-12, WCC, Mountain West and Big Sky) are defending conference champions. Cal Poly will return to competition on Sept. 29 at Oregon's Bill Dellinger Invitational, held at Springfield Country Club in Eugene.
