SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Senior Jocelyn Davis produced a pair of victories on Saturday to finish as the only undefeated Mustang as the Cal Poly women's tennis program completed second-day action at the UC Santa Barbara-hosted Gaucho Classic.
On the backdraw end of the B singles bracket, Davis defeated Colorado State's Veronika Wojakowska, 6-3, 6-2, before advancing to the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph versus UC Santa Barbara's Jordan Dockendorf. Davis will face Loyola Marymount's Elisaveta Pironkova in the backdraw semifinals on Sunday at 10 a.m.
After winning her opening match on Friday, sophomore Ane McPike advanced to the semifinals of the B Flight singles bracket with a 6-3, 6-3 sweep of UC Santa Barbara's Katerina Mozolyuk. McPike, however, was eliminated from title contention with a 6-4, 6-2 loss against Cal State Northridge's Anna Yang.
In A Flight singles play, sophomore Kathryn Webb dropped a 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-3 quarterfinal decision against UC Santa Barbara's Natalia Lozano. In the consolation portion of the A singles bracket, sophomore Gabrielle Gatewood defeated Northern Arizona's Malia Wahinepio, 6-4, 6-3, before falling against Loyola Marymount's Tori Parravi, 6-4, 6-2.
After winning their opening match in the A Flight doubles bracket on Friday, Davis and Webb dropped a tight 9-8(3) semifinal decision against UC Santa Barbara's Dockendorf and Lozano. In B Flight doubles action, Gatewood and McPike fell in the consolation semifinal round against Cal State Northridge's Nigora Sirojiddinova and Anna Yang.
