SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Cal Poly improved its team score by 11 strokes, but remains in sixth place after the second round of play in the Big West Conference Women's Golf Championship on Monday at the San Luis Obispo Golf and Country Club.
UC Davis, which trailed UC Irvine by five strokes entering the second round of play on the 6,028-yard, par-72 course, overtook the Anteaters with a four-person round of 295 for a 600 total. UC Irvine is second at 602, followed by Long Beach State at 611.
Cal Poly has a 629 total entering Tuesday's final round of play in the three-day 54-hole event.
A pair of golfers matched the Big West Conference course record at the San Luis Obispo Golf and Country Club with rounds of 71 and three more carded 72s on an overcast day with little wind.
Neomi Hunt of Cal State Fullerton and Ronnie Valerio of UC Irvine both carded 71s, matching the course record set by Jane Chin of UC Irvine in 2009.
Hunt, who began the day in 33rd place, had five birdies and four bogeys, climbing into a tie for 18th place with a 156 total. Valerio recorded four birdies and a trio of bogeys and is one stroke off the lead with a 148 total.

Simanton and Hoey also carded 72s Monday and both could have shared the Big West course record had they not bogeyed the final hole.
Michelle Park of UC Irvine led most of the day until she bogeyed four holes and double-bogeyed another on the back nine. She finished with a 77 for a 150 total, tied for fifth place with two other golfers, including PGA Tour professional Ricky Fowler's sister, Taylor Fowler of Cal State Fullerton.
