    Head coach Faith Mimnaugh announced the signing of Taryn Garza to a National Letter of Intent to enroll at Cal Poly and compete in the sport of women’s basketball this fall.

    Former Mustang Kristina Santiago will add some more stamps to her passport in the coming week. Santiago has joined with the USA All-Star team that will travel to China to compete in two tournaments from June 28-July 10th.

  • Santiago Named All-America Honorable Mention by Associated Press

    Cal Poly senior forward Kristina Santiago has made The Associated Press All-America team as an honorable mention it was announced Monday. She becomes the second Mustang (Laura Buehning, 1981) to achieve All-America status and the first at the Division I level.

    The top seeded Mustangs opened the Big West Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament with a 71-53 win over the Cal State Fullerton Titans, Tuesday at Mott Gym. Big West player of the year, Kristina Santiago, led all scorers with 31 points while Ariana Elegado came off the bench to add 14 points.

Ervin also earned the 2011-12 Big West Hustle award.

    The Cal Poly women’s basketball team, without the services of starter Kristina Santiago, fell on the road to UC Davis, 65-61. The loss snapped a nine-game winning streak for the Mustangs. With the loss, Cal Poly falls to 15-13 overall and 11-4 in Big West play while UC Davis improves to 17-12 and 9-6.

    The Mustangs conclude the regular season with a pair of games on the road. Cal Poly enters the week on a roll having won nine-straight and post an 11-3 Big West Conference record and a share of the conference title. Overall the Mustangs are 15-12. UC Davis enters the week 16-10 overall and 8-6 in conference games while Pacific is 15-11 and 8-6 and will host UCSB before taking on the Mustangs. Cal Poly will play at UCD on March 1 and Pacific on March 3.

  • Mustangs Conclude Regular Season Home Schedule with LBSU, CS Northridge

    The Mustangs are home this week for a pair of Big West Conference games against Long Beach State and Cal State Northridge. These two games will conclude the Mustangs regular season home schedule and showcase the Mustangs’ five players playing final regular season weekend in Mott Gym. Cal Poly will host Long Beach State on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7 pm and conference leading Cal State Northridge on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 4 pm. The Mustangs enter the week on a roll having won seven-straight and a 9-3 Big West Conference record (13-12 overall) while Long Beach State enters 6-6 and 11-14. CSUN will visit UCSB on Friday before visiting San Luis Obispo and enter the week 10-3 and 16-10.

    The Cal Poly women’s basketball team picked up its seventh win in a row with a 69-47 win over UC Riverside on Saturday afternoon at the Student Rec Center on the campus of UC Riverside. With the win the Mustangs improve to 13-12 overall and 9-3 in Big West Play. UC Riverside falls to 5-21 and 3-11 in conference play.

    The Cal Poly women’s basketball team used a solid second half to defeat UC Irvine, 76-63, in a Big West Conference basketball game on Thursday in Irvine. With the win the Mustangs improve to 12-12 overall and 8-3 in conference games while the Anteaters fall to 11-15 and 7-6.
  • Mustangs Look to Continue Winning Ways on SoCal Trip

    The Mustangs return to the road this week for a pair of Big West Conference games against UC Irvine and UC Riverside. Cal Poly enters the week on a roll having won its last five games and post a 7-3 record in second place in the conference. UCI enters the game with the Mustangs with an 11-14 overall record and 7-5 mark in conference games. UCI trails the Mustangs by one half game in the standings. UCR enters the week 5-19 and 3-9. The with the Anteaters will host Cal Poly on Feb. 16 with tip set for 7 pm while the game at UCR will be played on Feb. 18 and tip at 3 pm.

    The Mustangs will take a one game break from Big West Conference play with a single game at CSU Bakersfield on Wednesday. This past week the Mustangs defeated UCSB, 67-52, this past Saturday on ESPN 3. Cal Poly enters the game 9-12 overall having won its last three games. CSU Bakersfield enters the game 4-19 overall having lost its most recent game, 54-52, to Big West leading Cal State Northridge. Tip for the game is set for 7 pm at the Icardo Center.

    The Mustangs continue Big West Conference play with a single game at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday. This past week the Mustangs picked up a pair of conference wins to improve to 5-3 in conference play and into a tie for second place in the standings. UCSB lost both game and fell to 3-5 in conference play. The game with the Gauchos will be shown on ESPN 3 with tip set for 2 pm.
