SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Cal Poly men's tennis team continued its solid play with a 5-1 win over No. 55 Nebraska Monday afternoon at Mustang Courts. With the win the Mustangs improve to 9-4 in dual matches while Nebraska falls to 6-5. Only singles matches were played due to darkness.
The Mustangs return to the courts on Tuesday when the team will host Princeton at 11 am.
Sophomore Marco Comuzzo opened play from the fifth court with a straight-set, 6-2, 6-2 win over Eric Sock giving the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.
Junior Andre Dome, ranked 25th in the nation, kept the pressure on with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Christopher Aumuelle (ranked 73rd) on the first court.
Sophomore Jurgen De Jager put the Mustangs up 3-0 with a straight-set win, 6-2, 6-4, over Tom Blackwell on the sixth court while senior Matt Fawcett, seeing his first singles action of the year, secured the match for the Mustangs with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Adnre Stenger on the third court.
Junior Jordan Bridge had to come from behind on the fourth court to pick up a win over Stefan Gollner on the fourth court. Bridge dropped the first set, 6-2, before rebounding to win the final two sets, 6-1, 7-6.
Benedikt Lindheim, ranked 87th, defeated senior Brian McPhee, 6-0, 7-5, to pick up Nebraska's lone win.
