SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly men's basketball program finalized its roster for the 2017-18 season Friday morning with the announcement from ninth-year head coach Joe Callero and the Mustang Athletics Department that 6-4 junior wing Paulo Cruz has completed his transfer from Arizona.
Cruz will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2017-18 season.
"Paulo has great range on his jumper and we like his size and strength for a wing," Callero said. "He could compete for playing time at the two or three spot his first year with us. We love the depth and experience he'll bring to our team."
Additionally on Friday, the program announced that guard Josh Mishler will forgo his upcoming senior season due to injuries. Mishler made 16 appearances in his only season for Cal Poly last year after transferring into the program from Saddleback College. He scored a career high 10 points during Cal Poly's 68-64 victory at Northern Illinois (Nov. 23). Mishler will remain with the program in a managerial capacity.
Cruz, meanwhile, made eight appearances for Arizona last season on a squad that reached the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. He played a career high nine minutes versus Sacred Heart (Nov. 18) and grabbed two boards.
Cruz also made six appearances for Arizona as a true freshman during the 2015-16 season.
A native of San Diego, Cruz captained Francis Parker HS while also lettering in track.
His father, Joaquim Cruz, was a gold medalist for Brazil in the 800 meters at the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. Joaquim Cruz then captured the silver four years later in Seoul.
