Cal Poly Athletics Announces Partnership with adidas

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Cal Poly Athletics and adidas on Thursday announced a five-year exclusive partnership beginning in June 2017.

"The opportunity to partner with a powerful brand like adidas is great for our department and the university," said Mustang Director of Athletics Don Oberhelman. "We are excited to see the positive impact this will have on our student-athletes as they start to wear the highest-quality products the market has to offer."

With the new all-school deal, the Portland, Ore.-based company will be the official athletic footwear, apparel and accessory brand of the Mustangs through the 2021-22 season.

"We believe sport has the power to change lives and over the next five years we look forward to partnering with Cal Poly Athletics to help them achieve their vision to be a model collegiate athletics program, achieving comprehensive excellence in the student-athlete experience," said, Jim Murphy, director of NCAA Sports Marketing at adidas America.

"This new partnership was aligned from the start, as our mission is to help athletes perform better and Cal Poly Athletics' mission is to provide a broad-based, high-quality, competitive NCAA Division I athletic program that affords student-athletes opportunities to take advantage of Cal Poly's unique 'Learn by Doing' philosophy," Murphy added.

adidas is a global designer, developer and marketer of athletic footwear, apparel and accessories with the mission to make all athletes better. adidas is the official uniform, footwear and apparel provider for more than 100 collegiate programs including Arizona State, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Miami, Mississippi State, Nebraska, North Carolina State and Texas A&M.

adidas has marketing agreements with the National Basketball Association (NBA), National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), Major League Soccer (MLS) and Major League Lacrosse (MLL).

Cal Poly fields teams in 21 sports – 10 for men and 11 for women. Sixteen of the teams compete in the Big West Conference, with football competing in the Big Sky Conference, wrestling a member of the Pac-12 Conference and men's and women's swimming competing in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Women's track and field competes as an independent.

The men's and women's cross country and women's golf Big West championships won by Cal Poly during the 2016-17 academic year brought the Mustangs' all-time total of Big West titles since joining the conference in the fall of 1994 to 46. Cal Poly also claimed the 2012 Big Sky football championship.
