Jordan Yates, Freshman, RHP, 5-8, Kerman, Calif. (Kerman HS)

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – After posting a combined 2.04 ERA and limiting opposing hitters to a .209 batting average during three complete-game efforts, Cal Poly softball freshman righthander Jordan Yates has been named Coca-Cola/Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week.

During Cal Poly’s 4-3, 10-inning triumph at Fresno State on April 9, Yates went the distance and allowed just two earned runs and four walks in earning her first collegiate road victory. The win, in which Yates tossed 133 pitches, was Cal Poly’s first victory at Fresno State’s Bulldog Diamond since May 7, 1995.

Five days later during Cal Poly’s home series opener against Cal State Northridge, Yates again tossed a complete game and walked just two Matador hitters. Cal Poly, however, dropped a 4-0 decision.

Yates returned during the April 15 series finale against Cal State Northridge and allowed five hits and zero walks in a complete-game, 3-1 triumph. The win against Cal State Northridge provided Cal Poly its first series victory of the 2012 season.

Cal Poly (11-26, 3-6) completes a six-game home stand when hosting UC Davis for a three-game April 21-22 series.
