Nora Sobczak, Left Field, 5-7 Senior, Thousand Oaks, CA (Westlake HS)
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- After hitting a Cal Poly-best .636
during a three-game May 5-6 series at UC Santa Barbara, Mustang
softball senior left fielder Nora Sobczak has been named
Coca-Cola/Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week.
During the May 5 series opener at Campus Diamond, Sobczak produced
two of Cal Poly’s four hits in a 4-1 defeat. The Thousand
Oaks, Calif., native returned during the opening game of the
Saturday doubleheader to collect a career-high four hits in a 5-4,
eight-inning defeat. Sobczak’s four hits were the highest
single-game output by a Mustang in 2012.
The only Mustang to hit safely during each game in the series,
Sobczak capped the weekend with a third-inning double in the May 6
series finale. Cal Poly, however, fell in six innings against the
Gauchos, 8-0.
In addition to batting .636 (7-for-11) against the rival Gauchos,
Sobczak paced Cal Poly in hits, total bases (eight), slugging
percentage (.727) and on-base percentage (.636).
Sobczak, who raised her season average to .273 with the seven
hits, also played an errorless left field.
Cal Poly (12-34, 4-14) wraps the 2012 regular season when hosting
UC Riverside for a three-game May 11-12 series at Bob Janssen
Field. Prior to Saturday’s 12 noon series finale, the Mustang
program will honor Sobczak and fellow senior Nicole Lund for their
four-year contributions to the program.
